NBA
2008 first round pick Danilo Gallinari finally arrived in New York. A lingering back injury cost him most of the Summer League and the first 36 games of the regular season. The forward made his NBA debut Saturday night and scored 6 points in15 minutes (about 5 times longer than Eddy Curry lasted in his season debut).
Gallinari built on his initial performance and posted solid numbers in Monday’s matinee against the Bulls. He showed his ability to shoot and play an all-around strong game. In 16 minutes he posted 9 points (4/7 FG), 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, one block, and only 2 turnovers.
Keep an eye on Danilo’s minutes. If they continue trending upwards consider picking him up. Coach D’Antoni likes playing ‘his guys’ and Gallinari was 100% his call on draft day. Any increase in playing time could cost Wilson Chandler minutes.
In other Knicks news, Chris Duhon has been experiencing back spasms. He missed the 4th quarter versus Philly over the weekend and played 10 minutes under his season average on Monday. Look for Nate Robinson and Quentin Richardson to pick up extra time. The two seem to alternate strong games, so don’t sell the farm to grab either one.
NHL
Wade Dubielewicz seemed destined to re-join the Islanders this week but was unable to clear waivers. The Columbus Blue Jackets snatched up ‘Dubie’ thus forcing the Islanders to keep starting Yann Danis. Joey MacDonald is out for 2-4 weeks with a strained groin (I bet closer to the 4 than the 2) and Rick DiPietro’s season is currently in limbo. The Islanders are looking at Curtis Sanford, Dany Sabourin, and John Grahame as possible stop-gap options.
