According to a source at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, the homeless man who forced the evacuation of the main terminal at La Guardia Airport with a fake bomb last Saturday doesn’t understand why he is in trouble. The evacuation took place at approximately 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning and led to the arrest of 32-year-old Scott McGann. The terminal re-opened for business at about 9 a.m. Some flights were delayed for several hours while others were canceled.
McGann has been described by another hospital source as “super-intelligent but socially dysfunctional” and apparently was a patient at Bellevue from June 4 to 11 of this year. At that time he was diagnosed as “paranoid delusional and had a persecution complex.” The source also stated that “he understands being in a hospital because he knows he does have problems, but the situation in the court and the cops and correctional officers ordering him about are confusing him.”
Mass chaos occurred at La Guardia on Saturday morning when McGann approached the TSA(Transportation Security Administration) security check point for Concourse “C” with what turned out to be a fake bomb comprised of wires and batteries. His mother told police that her son was recently suicidal. McGann is a former web consultant.
At La Guardia, Delta and Northwest Airlines operate from the Delta Terminal which is a stand-alone building located about one-half mile south of the main terminal.
