Northwest Airlines’ 'PerkChoice' program continues to be offered for WorldPerks members, and it is a great option for those who don’t have enough miles to earn a free ticket. PerkChoice gives you the ability to use WorldPerks miles for half of your round-trip and cash for the return. With this option it may be possible to use as few as 12,500 WorldPerks miles, and there are no time or date restrictions.

PerkChoice really comes in handy when there is a WorldPerks award seat available in only one direction of your trip. Unlike the popular “Cash and Miles” program also offered by Northwest, PerkChoice is always available and is not limited to specific time periods.

While it is unclear whether this unique WorldPerks program will continue to be available when the SkyMiles program takes over in the coming months, for the time being this is still a great way to travel for fewer miles, but without paying full price for an airline ticket. PerkChoice is available for coach, first class and business fare travel. Travelers paying cash in one direction will continue to earn WorldPerks miles for that portion of the trip.

Another positive aspect of PerkChoice is that the program can be used to book a ticket for family members or friends. Elite upgrades are only offered on the cash portion of a PerkChoice reservation.
