There is an exciting new option for air travelers who typically drive to MSP from western Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa and southeastern Minnesota. Starting November 1, 2009, Southwest Airlines (www.southwest.com) will be serving Milwaukee’s Mitchell Field (www.mitchellairport.com) with non-stop service to Baltimore/Washington, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Las Vegas, Orlando and Phoenix.

While Minneapolis/St. Paul offers many more non-stop opportunities than does Milwaukee, being a fortress hub for Delta Air Lines sometimes makes MSP’s airfares less attractive. So, beginning this fall, if you reside between the Twin Cities and Milwaukee in areas such as La Crosse, Wausau, Winona and northeastern Iowa, Milwaukee may be an attractive alternative for you to save money on an upcoming trip.

To introduce their new service Southwest has announced some amazing introductory airfares. Purchase your ticket from June 23 – through June 26 for travel November 1 through 18 and airfare to all of the cities above starts at just $35 each way. There is no round-trip purchase requirement on Southwest. The $35 fare is valid only on non-stop service from Milwaukee, seats are limited and may not be available on every flight.

Southwest has another introductory fare offer from Milwaukee available for travel from November 1 through December 17, 2009. This offer allows for ticket purchase from June 23 through July 30, 2009. Airfares start at just $49 one-way to Kansas City; $69 to BWI; $79 to Tampa Bay and Orlando; and $99 to Las Vegas and Phoenix. Travel is valid every day except Friday and Sunday. November 24, 25, 29 and 30 are blackout dates.

Southwest’s much-anticipated and aggressive arrival in Milwaukee may please the traveling public, but it is sure to rile both Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines (www.midwestairlines.com) as well as AirTran (www.airtran.com), who has also established a hub operation there.

For those travelers who still find Minneapolis/St. Paul to be more convenient, Southwest offers multiple daily non-stops to Chicago-Midway and Denver, with connecting service to destinations nationwide.
