The force is strong in this one...

No, not really; that's just the sulfur emissions you're smelling from that Volvo in the lane ahead of you.

That scenario may be part of what you experience as you mosey along at 6 miles per hour as you wait to find a parking spot for the 4th of July fireworks display.

Quite a few places will be hosting a 4th of July event (this Saturday) in one form or another.

The good thing is that there are other events being held on the 3rd of July (Friday!), too.

So, with that in mind, I thought I'd bring you the top 5 events to add to your 4th of July riding agenda.

The events are presented in no particular order or preference.

Kaboom Town - Addison, TX - July 3rd

Touted as one of the best fireworks displays in country, it definitely satisfies your yearning for fireworks, food, and fun.
Fireworks will be synced to a radio simulcast on 100.3 JACK FM

Arrive early as this event draws huge crowds.
TIP: there is a Bank of America parking building (actually 2 parking buildings) within a block of the event.  Free parking, baby!

The weather for the 2009 July 4th weekend is expected to be in the low 100's -- yes, H-O-T.
There will be refreshment and food stands on the grounds, and there are restaurants nearby as well.
You are allowed to bring your own coolers with refreshments.

The Addison police will be on-hand so I would suggest refraining from parking on any sidewalks as they will have your ride towed and you will be given a citation.

Dallas Fairpark Fourth - Dallas, TX - July 4th

The second consecutive fireworks display for the Dallas Fairpark, they will open from 4:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Fair Park Fourth is free and open to the public and will feature a state-of-the-art national class fireworks program by Grucci Fireworks
Among other attractions are free admission to museums and musical performances and other free activities for the family.

A run-down of the schedule is:

  • 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. – Free admission to museums
  • 7:00 p.m. – Cotton Bowl gates open
  • 8:30 p.m. – Dallas Wind Symphony patriotic concert in the Cotton Bowl
  • 9:30 p.m. – Fireworks by Grucci program in the Cotton Bowl (viewing area with synchronized sound to choreographed music broadcast live on WRR 101.1 FM)

Arlington's 4th of July Celebration Day - Arlington, TX - July 4th

A parade, awards ceremonies, and fireworks; Arlington is setting out to celebrate the 4th in a big way.

With the event starting at 9:00 a.m. come prepared for an all-day series of events that will lead up tot he evening's fireworks display.
The parade route will show you what streets to be on to enjoy the marching bands, color guards, exotic cars, and other neat participating displays.

Grapevine's 4th of July Extravaganza -- Grapevine, TX - July 4th

Head over to Grapevine Lake and park your ride - there you will find the 26th annual Grapevine 4th of July celebration.

Click the link above - you can download maps and even the music score that will be played during the fireworks display!

Admission: free

Frisco's 8th Annual Frisco Freedom Fest - Frisco, TX - July 4th

Frisco likes to do the 4th of July celebration in style!

Beginning at 4:00 p.m. you can partake of the many attractions leading up to the big booms: Bounce houses and rock-climbing for the family, exhibits, bands, dancers...and food!

The Taste of Friscowill be on hand to feed your appetite.

The evening festivities will be accompanied with music by Lone Star Attitude bringing you the sounds of Texas

You know, if you plan this right, you can enjoy the parade in Arlington, a couple of museum exhibits in Dallas, a corny-dog in Grapevine, then drink, merriment and music in Frisco - all in one day!

If you see me wandering around, turkey leg in hand and looking dazed from the all the riding, stop and say hello!

A salute to all riders in this, the greatest country in the world: The United States of America.
