Frog Hollow Farms' peaches are served at Alice Waters' famous Chez Panisse.

Summer is here, which beyond the blue skies and patio dining with friends means increased access to in-season fresh fruits and vegetables. Although I'm normally a proponent of supporting local farmers (and I do try to shop with that in mind), I've decided to share my favorite mail order fruit secret - Frog Hollow Farm - a 120-acre organic farm in Brentwood, California that produces some of the best peaches I've ever tasted in my life. So good in fact, that Alice Waters serves them at her legendary restaurant Chez Panisse.

Frog Hollow grows their own Asian pears, cherries, pluots, apricots, and peaches and then picks and ships them at the peak of ripeness straight to your door via 2-day UPS. Order the Seasonal Fruit Sampler ($38) for an introduction to what they offer (you'll be coming back for more...) or spring for a luxurious 3-month offering with their Cornucopia of California Petite Harvest ($172).

Unsurprisingly, the farm also makes terrific fruit spreads and pastries (try the Meyer Lemon conserve...an ideal mix of tart & sweet). Besides buying this stuff for yourself, Frog Hollow's comestibles make ideal gifts for the foodies or business clients in your life. So please(!) stop sending those generic food baskets full of stale nuts and dusty dried fruit and ship your cousin, top client, or dear Aunt Edna a luxury they'll love - a bounty of healthy, organic fruit picked at the peak of ripeness, from one of the top farms in California. Paired with some cheese and a nice bottle of wine, their fruit is the perfect seasonal dessert.
