Brauhaus Schmitz, the hotly anticipated German beer hall, was originally set to open during Beer Week. Then it was due to open sometime in April. And now the message on their website says that they've been delayed...again. I'm getting my lederhosen in a twist over this, let me tell you.
However, one inquisitive/slightly cranky email to the owner later, I've discovered that the Brauhaus is now scheduled to open in late May. Granted, it's still later than I'd like. Especially seeing as how the weather is getting warmer and there's pretty much nothing better than sitting outside & sipping a cold one. But I digress. My message here is ultimately one of hope.
Hope that the city will stop giving South Street's Brauhaus Schmitz a hard time about the permits (or whatever else they need to open) so we Philadelphians can finally enjoy some authentic Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes), Laugenbrezel (Bavarian pretzel), Pilzstrudel (mushrooms & onions in flaky dough, covered in cream sauce), and Bratwurst (you know what that is). Don't even get me started on the Schnitzel sandwich. Um num num.
Finally, their beer list will feature 16 German taps and 4 alternative/local taps. And for you dudes out there -- the waitresses will be dressed in dirndles. That's right: dirndles.
Start getting excited.
