There are many people and places out there that can tell you where to put your money, how to spend it and who to give it to. Best way to solve this irritating issue it to stay EDUCATED.

There may come a time where you or a loved one might need some assistance with everyday things and home is no longer a safe option. So you go through the process of looking for a place for you loved one and you finally find one that would be suitable....then it hits you "How am I supposed to pay for this?" Erie County Department Senior Services has set up many events that provide information on paying for Long Term Care and help out with Insurance questions as well.

At these events they have representatives from Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP). They are there to answer questions you might have on your health insurance, long term care insurance, prescriptions, Medicare/Medicaid and much more.

The next event is July 10, 2009 8500 Boston State Rd in Boston, NY called the Young at Heart Club at 2pm. Its about 45 minutes outside of Buffalo. If this is too far for you there is one in Riverside Park July 18, 2009 from 10am-3pm called Victory Assembly Health Fair. There are many of these types of informational fairs though out the year. A popular one is the Forever Young Fair which is held several times a year.

Here are some tips:

  • Ask very specific questions. The people there are expecting to have general question. So make them work and ask them questions specific to your situation. You will get better results that way.
  • Stay away from vendors. There will be the most random vendors selling roofs, windows and things that will have nothing to do with the fair.
  • Take notes and take names. You never know who you are going to meet or who you might need in the future. You might be able to make a contact that can be useful in the future.
