PBR – Professional Bull Riders attracts over 1.7 million live attendees each year. The world’s best bull riders against the toughest animal athletes on the planet in an 8-second show down – no wonder it is one of the fastest growing properties in sports history.
The bulls are finely-tuned bovine athletes who compete with the same intensity and desire as the bull riders. Every bull that completes in the PBR is bred and born to buck. They require very little training, they weigh from roughly 1,100 pounds to move then 2,000 pounds, and the top bucking bulls in the sort sell for move then $1 million. PBR is fully committed to ensuring the much deserved health, safety and respect of each bull. The care and treatment of the bulls is top priority – to mistreat a bull would be a detriment to the sport upon which a full rider’s own livelihood depends.
The top 40 bull riders in the world will make the inaugural trip to Citizens Business Bank Arena on Sept. 26-27. Riders expected to visit Southern California in September are 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil); two-time PBR World Champ Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.); PBR superstars J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.), Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.), Brendon Clark (Morpeth, AUS), and Brian Canter (Randleman, N.C.); and fan favorites Luke Snyder (Raymore, Mo.), Ross Coleman (Molalla, Ore.), and Wiley Petersen (Fort Hall, Idaho).
The cowboy athletes are physically strong, mentally tough, and well-conditioned to survive the rigors of this tough sport. Although many riders are small in stature the pound for pound strength he possesses is unrivaled in the sports world. The Dickies Invitational will consist of three rounds of competition with the first two rounds featuring the top 40 bull riders randomly matched against the PBR’s toughest bulls. The scores from the two rides will be combined and the riders with the top 15 scores will advance to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round after intermission on Sunday. In the end, the cowboy with the highest total score on three bulls will be declared the winner!
