All-American roadsters are roaring into town. As many as 300 Corvettes are motoring into Islamorada Friday through Sunday, Nov. 6-8, as the Sportfishing Capital welcomes the 16th annual Corvettes in Paradise show, to be held at Holiday Isle resort and Marina, mile marker 84 oceanside. Corvettes in Paradise features decades-worth of colorful and shiny hot rods, from race pace cars to classics, from muscle cars with chrome under the hood to those exuding grace and beauty. Twenty different classes will be judged.
According to Tony CuCulino of Big Pine Key and the Florida Keys Corvettes Club, which hosts the show, the majority of the cars the past couple of years are newer models. The newer models are even moderately "green" or environmentally-friendly. CuCulino said, "They get 25-30 miles per gallon from an engine that will do 180 miles per hour!"
Cars from Canada and other international, overseas venues also make the trip to the Keys. Corvette owners know it's a great party at a fun, beachside venue.
David McClellan, Corvettes' second chief engineer from 1975 until his retirement in 1992, will be on hand and serve as a judge in a few of the categories.
The event is presented by the Florida Keys Corvettes Club to share its common interest in 'Vettes with other Corvette clubs. For more information, visit www.flkeyscorvettesclub.com or call 305-872-9641.
