In part 1 of this series on HIV and AIDS, the controversy over the nature of AIDS and the role of HIV in causing the symptoms of immune deficiency was explored. In part 2, some specific researchers will be highlighted, examining what they have discovered about HIV and AIDS and ways of safely and effectively supporting recovery from immune system breakdown.

Writer and researcher Ed McCabe, known as Mr. Oxygen, has documented in Flood Your Body With Oxygen and other books how oxygen therapies have successfully restored health to persons diagnosed with AIDS, cancer, and other serious illnesses. McCabe claims these natural treatments have been suppressed, mentioning as an example that celebrity AIDS activist Magic Johnson had used oxygen therapy effectively for himself while not mentioning this when promoting establishment approved information in public talks about HIV and AIDS. McCabe presented evidence to the U.S. Congress, yet this information was never shared with the public or used in determining official policies concerning HIV and AIDS. Meanwhile, the AIDS epidemic was made a national security issue during the Clinton Presidency, with the CIA given a role in addressing the supposed global AIDS crisis. Since the CIA is a spy agency, AIDS could be used as a cover for intelligence operatives to operate in third world countries and disseminate propaganda about AIDS and other topics that support the interests of Western corporations, including those corporations which sell drugs and vaccines.

Resisting efforts to suppress his findings, McCabe has devoted his resources to spreading information to help people recover their health. Ed McCabe guides his audience to practice healthy lifestyle recommendations and incorporate positive psychology and spirituality in fostering their recovery. He points out that when our body is supplying our cells with adequate oxygen and maintaining a healthy pH balance it is impossible for the seemingly harmful viruses and bacteria to thrive. This is similar to the views of microbiologist Robert Young, Ph.D., who teaches about pH balance and uses live blood analysis to demonstrate how cells and microbes transform in response to conditions in the body.

Research in Africa has shown that people diagnosed as HIV positive tend to be much less likely to develop AIDS if they live in areas with selenium-rich soil. Selenium is a key nutrient for supporting healthy immune functioning and it has also been shown to dramatically reduce cancer rates. Thus, selenium deficiency is demonstrated to play a role in development of cancer and AIDS, yet mainstream medical personnel don't tell patients to take selenium supplementation as a treatment or prevention for cancer and AIDS. A scientist named H.D. Foster reported on how HIV may deplete selenium from the body, fostering AIDS via selenium deficiency rather than through directly attacking immune system cells. Foster discovered that HIV depletes the selenoenzyme glutathione peroxidase. This leads to depletion of selenium, tryptophan, cysteine, and glutamine. Multiple studies have shown selenium as beneficial in halting HIV replication. It appears that selenium helps protect against initial HIV infection, and once infected with HIV, individuals need selenium supplementation to counteract the viral replication process and its affect on the immune system. Other natural nutrients have also been found to benefit those with these serious illnesses, which supports the hypothesis that nutritional deficits and imbalances play a key role in immune deficiency syndromes.

If you have a weak immune system is it better to rebuild the immune system or to become dependent on antiviral drugs that suppress microbes while adding further toxicity to your body? These are the competing philosophies that contrast allopathic medicine with most alternative approaches to helping those diagnosed with HIV or AIDS. Many in the HIV & AIDS community use both conventional and alternative therapies, often reducing or eliminating need for antiviral drugs as natural therapies that restore immune balance take effect. The film House of Numbers adds to the list of films and books that challenge the AIDS orthodoxy and suggest that the nature of HIV and AIDS has been misrepresented, helping fuel excessive fear and illness rather than fostering health and wise health care choices.
