There was more public displays of Christianity last night on "I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here," and I missed it. Darn. I was watching "The Mentalist." It was a tough decision. Smart humor with Australian Simon Baker? Or psuedo-celebs behaving badly?

The talk this morning is about, you guessed it, Heidi and Spencer. Their temper tantrums and Spencer's baptism in the river by Stephen Baldwin.

If I’m understanding this right, Stephen asked Spencer if he wanted to be baptized, and Spencer agreed. I'm not sure if that was before or after Spencer said:

"I'm too rich and I'm too famous to be sitting with these people and cleaning up their s&$# in jungle, my man. This cast is devaluing our fame right now. I'm sitting next to VH1 comedians that I've never even seen before. I'm sitting next to wrestlers. This is just not the show.. I thought we were dealing with celebrities. Stars of shows get treated like stars. And I'm supposed to be cleaning John Sally's s&$# in a bucket, dude?"

Sigh. Like I said yesterday, it's hard to break the "Christians are hypocrites and lunatics" stereotype when celebrities who claim to be Christians go on TV and act like, well, hypocrites and lunatics.

Then again, the Christian walk is a work in progress.

We'll know true believers by their fruit - patience, love, longsuffering, humility - and it takes a lifetime to master them. But we should continually be showing progress. Watching the video, I'm not so sure Spencer's heart was in the whole thing as much as his ego. (And while Stephen Baldwin seems the goofy Christian, I'm convinced he's sincere in his faith.)

I don't know Heidi or Spencer, don't know their hearts, what the believe, where they stand with Jesus. All we can do is pray for people in their position and hope that someone can convince them to drop out of the limelight for a while; being in the public eye just encourages more self-centered behavior, which begets more public scrutiny. It's a never ending cycle for people who place their value on what the world thinks of them. True growth in the Christian walk comes when you stop caring what the world thinks, and focus only on Christ. Not an easy thing to do when you're self-worth is completely wrapped up in being, as Spencer said last night, a "super celebrity."
