It is the movie that forever changed the meaning of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” and on November 3, the whole world can celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of the best romantic films of all time when Say Anything is released on Blu-ray and DVD.

John Cusack stars in the film as Lloyd Dobler, an everyday high-school senior who wants nothing more than the key to Diane Court’s (Ione Skye) heart. But the beautiful and intelligent Diane is way out of Lloyd’s league.

When the two eventually get together, they are faced with pressures from all angles, the most prominent coming from Diane’s over-protective father. The obstacles that the couple face just to stay together are many and it slowly begins to strain their relationship, until Diane calls it off.

This is when the iconic scene occurs in the film. Lloyd stands outside of Diane’s window holding up a boom box that is playing Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”. It is this climactic scene that reinvigorates Diane’s feelings for Lloyd.

It is hard to imagine that 20 years have gone by since audiences first experienced the emotional ups and downs of this film. But, to this day, it has continued to rank among many young women’s top films of all time, including my own, because it is truly a remarkable love story. And I have my friend to thank for introducing me to this movie (you know who you are).
