San Diego FESTA! takes place on Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Recognized as the largest event in Little Italy each year, FESTA! will take place on Sunday, October 11, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

More than 150 food, art and retail vendors will participate in FESTA, with special highlights including: Italian food: All local restaurants will be open and overflowing, serving up the best Italian cuisine – everything from pizza and pastries to authentic pastas and giant calamari.

Two entertainment stages will feature an array of talented musicians and performers throughout the day. There will also be a Bocce ball tournament, Stickball exhibition game, Raffle prizes, and an interactive children’s area.

The popular Gesso Italian Chalk Painting Contest will also take place during FESTA!, in the heart of the neighborhood on India Street (between Fir and Grape Streets). More than 150 artists representing 40 teams from across the nation are expected to participate in the event, drawing crowds to enjoy viewing the creation of their masterpieces.

“We’re proud to pay homage to our history and celebrate the vibrancy of our treasured Little Italy neighborhood with visitors to our annual Festa,” said Danny Moceri, Vice President of Little Italy Association and general manager of Filippi's Pizza Grotto. “This commemorative 15th anniversary year demonstrates the commitment of our community to maintain an event that brings fun, spirit and entertainment for all to enjoy.”

The FESTA! events will take place in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood, located in downtown San Diego. Public transportation is readily available to Little Italy via the MTS Trolley with a stop in the heart of town. To travel by car, directions as follow: Interstate 5, heading South: Take Front St./Civic Ctr. exit, make the first right on Cedar Street, drive two blocks west, make a right on India Street. Interstate 5, heading North: Exit Hawthorn/Airport, make a left on Columbia Street then a right on Cedar Street, then a right on India Street.
