Celebrity fashion lines can offer us a more affordable way to dress like our favorite stars, but not every line has the design team, wearable styles or even celebrity following to back it up. From Lindsay Lohan to Amanda Bynes to Justin Timberlake, celebrity lines are sometimes hit or miss. Here's a look at the top fashion lines, designed or inspired by celebrities, of 2008.
Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony: Actress and perpetually quirky It girl Chloe Sevigny launched her second line for Opening Ceremony in the spring of 2008. She's a hipster fashionista at heart and helped revive 90s style by creating a line full of mini tea dresses, jumpsuits, gingham, tiny flower prints and fun little hats.
Twenty8Twelve by S. Miller: Sienna and Savannah Miller launched their first line in 2007, but Twenty8Twelve continues to grow. Fueled by Sienna's unique style sensibility and sister Savannah's actual design skills, Twenty8Twelve will show at London Fashion Week in February. Expect masculine, rock'n'roll pieces mixed with modern romance.
The Row: The Row officially launched in 2006 as a project backed by both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, but now the word is that Ashley is the principal designer behind the sleek leather pants, pricey tees and shrunken jackets. It's hard to find, but celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow are already big fans, making it sure to survive even despite the fashion-sabotaging recession that is expected continue through 2009. It's even rumored that Ashley may expand into menswear next fall.
Kate Moss for Topshop: The Kate Moss for Topshop phenomenon has probably been the best international marketing and proft-boosting scheme for the British chain ever. While Kate isn't actually designing clothes, she offers inspiration and even some of her favorite items for her closet to the actual designers to work with. Which may seem like a cop out, but when you're dealing with one of the most celebrated fashion icons of the modern era, we'll let it slide.
Elizabeth and James: Named after Mary-Kate and Ashley's less famous siblings, Elizabeth and James is a little funkier and slightly less pricey version of The Row. Its youthful minidresses and bright patterns have been seen on Vanessa Hudgens, Carrie Underwood and others. The line even features a unique jewelry collection probably inspired by Mary-Kate's hard-edged, gothic sensibility and sells well online, as well as in stores like Neiman Marcus.
