Chocolate and Banana Crêpes

What I knew walking into the Flute Bar in Gramercy on Tuesday was that they had a Champagne Happy Hour from 5-8 p.m. What I didn't know was that the buy-one-get-one deal they advertised was not just for the champagne, it extended to their cocktail and appetizer menu!

Even without that fun fact though, it's hard to figure out why this place wasn't packed. It's an intimate bar, with couches and pillows to relax on, and dim lighting.  The champagne flutes start at $12 (cocktails at $10), so on Tuesdays that's $6 a flute. Math.  This really is a great place for a date.

I went with a large group and we hit the small plate menu pretty hard. We ordered the Vietnamese Fusion Spring Rolls ($10), Tomato and Parmesan Tarts ($9), Mini Cheeseburgers ($11) and Cheese Quesadillas ($9). So you're probably thinking, nine bucks for a quesadilla isn't a deal. But nine bucks for TWO quesadillas with a ton of cheese is. The mini cheeseburgers were especially tasty, with a good sized piece of meat.

In the picture is the Banana and Chocolate crepe dessert that they brought over for my friend's birthday. I probably could have eaten that entire plate myself. Yum.

The service was really great, too. A few people from our group got their check early, left a tip and signed. The waitor actually came over to point out that the gratuity had already been added and allowed them to adjust it. I was floored. And now probably a regular on Tuesdays.
