Well, autumn has officially started. Here in the Bay Area, we are experiencing a beautiful “Indian Summer”. The weather will change soon though, and before you know it the holiday season will be among us. First on the docket, of course, is Halloween.

Even though some of our teens feel too old to participate, some still love the holiday. I think it’s still important to include our teens in Halloween events. While our teen have a strong feeling to be independent and to be “all grown up”, they love Halloween because it gives them the chance to be a kid again (the same is true for many adults!).

There are many ways to include our teens during Halloween. One way is to include them in picking out our pumpkins. If you didn’t grow your own, then I recommend going to a pumpkin patch. Make sure to pick one that has a lot of different things to see or do. Pumpkin patches work a lot better for teens if they have younger siblings. It can be a lot of fun to watch your little brother or sister go crazy! Something more for the teens are the seasonal Haunted Houses. One fun event for the whole family is a flashlight tour of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, but there are many Haunted Houses throughout the Bay Area. Of course it wouldn’t be Halloween if you didn’t have a costume. I recommend finding your local Spirit Shop, which for me is a one stop shopping for Halloween.

Lastly, it’s great fun to throw a Halloween party. The whole family can be involved in decorations and all the preparations. You might even think about hosting a “Murder Party” – many teens and adults have a great time with a good “who done it”. There is so much fun to be had at this holiday, and believe me – it’s your teens favorite holiday.
