Only a short week away is one of the biggest events that takes place in the High Country, The Blue Ridge Wine Festival.  For those who have not attended, wineries from all over North Carolina, as well as some from independent distributors come together for one great weekend of tastings, seminars, and entertainment.

On April 16, the "Uncork" is the official kick off of the wine festival at the Meadowbrook Inn.  While perusing the wine and cheese samples you can enjoy the local band The Dark Side of Boone who will be providing the entertainment with their love of Pink Floyd.

Throughout the weekend there will be a downtown scavenger hunt, where participants can enter for the chance to win $300 worth of gift certificates from local businesses. There will also be the opportunity to attend cooking demonstrations as well as wine seminars over the four day event.

Saturday and Sunday one of the main events with be the "Fire on the Rock" chef competition.  Local chefs have been competing in preliminary competitions over the past month and during the weekend the final four will compete to find out who the best chef in the High Country will be for 2009.  One of the judges this year will be Carla Lyons Hall, chef and owner of Alchemy Caterers in Washington D.C. as well as a past contestant on Bravo's Top Chef series.

The Grand Tasting is culmination of the weekend held on Saturday, April 18.  This year it will be held off of Main Street, behind the Wachovia, where hundreds of wines will be available for tasting under the enormous tent.  During this tasting wine representatives will be available to answer any questions you may have as you enjoy the eclectic tastes that are provided.

Each event requires a ticket, so log on to www.blueridgewinefestival.com and click on the "Buy Tickets On line" link.  Tickets range from $5 to $35 depending on what kind of event it is.
