The Village of Blowing Rock is known for its small town feel set against the backdrop of exquisite mountain views.  But once a year the town is transformed to make room for all the activities that take place during its annual Winterfest.  Beginning this Thursday, January 22nd, Blowing Rock has something for everyone to enjoy.

FOOD and WINE
Throughout the Winterfest there is free hot chocolate downtown to stay warm as you move from event to event.  The first night of Winterfest is the Winterfest, where all the restaurants of Blowing Rock come together for a fabulous dinner.  There is also a Chili Cook-off where restaurants and individuals attempt to out-do one another with their various takes on chili.  Wine tasting takes place over the weekend, where adults can sample wines from all over the world.   At the end of the weekend you won’t make the drive down the mountain on an empty stomach after the pancake breakfast.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES
There are some many things to do as a family while at the Winterfest.  Everyday there are free Hayrides offered throughout the town.  There will be a dusk bonfire, perfect for making those s’mores you never get.  The Polar Plunge is entertainment for everyone, watching visitors and locals dress up and jump into the frigid Chetola Lake.  The Ice carving Competition is spectacular, watching works of art come out of block of ice.

This year is sure to be the best Winterfest to date.  For a detailed schedule of activities, more information on package vacation deals or to purchase tickets in advance visit www.blowingrockwinterfest.com.
