Sometimes the hardest part of planning a winter vacation is trying to figure out plans for children while you are up in the mountains.  Sure there are bunny slopes and lessons for kids to enjoy while their parents hit the slopes but Beech Mountain offers more fun and its free.

Beech Mountain, at an elevation of 5,506 feet, is the highest town in Eastern America with an average annual snowfall of more than 80 inches.  Mostly known for its ski slopes, Beech Mountain is once again offering a youth sledding hill.

The sledding hill sits directly across from the town hall and is a mixture of natural snow and man-made snow.  It is for kids 12 and under with plastic sleds required.  If you don’t travel with your own sled many shops throughout town provide plastic sleds at great prices.

“There is no charge for the sledding hill and it is open daily, as long as we have snow coverage,” says Peggy Coscia of the Beech Mountain Chamber. “We get kids from all over the Southeast. Folks are welcome to call and check conditions. I provide real-time updates from my office window.”

It is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as long as conditions are great and there is snow coverage.

For more info and up to the minute sledding conditions call Beech Mountain Chamber  at 1-800-468-5506
