The kids' rides at Burke Lake Park are open for the season. This weekend is a perfect time to go, especially if you live in Fairfax County. Starting in July, county residents will have to pay $4 per vehicle to enter the park.

As you drive into Burke Lake Park, veer left and follow the signs for the train and carousel. The rides are on the far side of the ice cream parlor. If the train and carousel are already running, don't worry. Your kids can hop around the nearby playground area while you wait  for the next ride.

Tip: Get on the first rides of the day, because the ticket line is not as long in the morning. The first  train departs at 11:15am. The  first carousel begins at 11:30am.

Where: Burke Lake Park, 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA

When: Both rides are only open on weekends until Memorial Day (when they begin their summer schedules). The miniature  train runs every half hour from 11:15am to 5:45pm. The carousel runs every half hour from 11:30am to 5:30pm. Both rides run more frequently during high demand times.

Cost: Entrance to the park is free for Fairfax County residents (until July). Non-residents must pay $8 per vehicle. The train costs an extra $2 per rider, and the carousel costs $1.50. Children under age two ride free.
