Helle Greer with her Pet Diary at Paper Tales

Helle Greer’s self-proclaimed style is “romantic gypsy”, yet she said her artist friends like to call her a “black sheep”. That’s because Helle likes messy art. She likes to get her hands dirty with paint, oil crayons, inks, and just about any other art medium. One would think that meant Helle’s creations might be dark, maybe ominous, but that’s hardly the case at all. Her creations are vintage fabulous! She likes to alter old photos with a hint of the romantic. “It has to be messy and look a bit gypsy-ish – does that makes sense?” asked Helle. “My favorite colors in art are black and white with splashes of pinks and silver and bronze and a dash of turquoise!”

Originally from Denmark, Helle has lived in the United States for about 20 years, but she’s also lived in Indonesia and Norway. Trained in Europe as a hairstylist, Helle’s worked in several European cities, and she worked for a Danish furniture company when she first came to the US in 1988. “I love shopping”, said Helle and her dream job would be as a personal shopper! Helle’s current career is a full-time mother to her two children Sofia and Stefan, as well as an artist.

Helle's work was recently published in Somerset In Love, A Passionate Collection from Eleven Artists, where her romantic style is clearly evident.

Besides her devotion to art, Helle’s an avid pleasure traveler and photographer, and this inspires many of her artistic projects, like her handmade travel journals and albums that are absolutely incredible. Helle also loves to teach others how to create their own travel-inspired creations.

When she gets the chance to relax you can find Helle at the beach, or perhaps visiting at her parents’ home in Denmark. When asked what her favorite dessert is, Helle replied, “rhubarb pie or red velvet cupcakes!” A splash of red is evident in her sweet treats.

This summer Helle has several fantastic classes planned at Paper Tales in Point Loma, where she will teach one of her famous travel albums, a “number canvas”, an Amuse card class for Amuse-a-palooza, and many more. Check Paper Tales’ blog for her class schedule. Get your hands dirty and create some romantic gypsy art with Helle Greer.
