In a day or so the crew teams will be skimming the waters of the Charles River. The beautiful fall leaves will continue twirling their way to the ground, and the first frosts have already signaled the final days of our growing season.
Therefore, it is the time of year that the local CSAs are wrapping up a season and preparing for the next one, because as we all know (and if you don't head out to a farm soon) a farmer's job is never done. So if you are in the market for a CSA, or a new CSA, this is a good time to do so. Ask around, find out what people like about their CSA, price it out, and consider what you value. Do you want organic? are you happy with IPM? Do you want something nearby? Do you want your kids to have the farm experience firsthand rather than a delivery drop-off?
To find out about some of the CSAs around here, check the blogs, and other links such as Local Harvest.
Now for the Turkeys. If you're getting local these are the things to consider: Do you want heritage? Do you care if it is frozen? What size turkeys will be available? When and where will you need to pick it up?
