A great way to save money on holidays or birthdays is to use a debit rewards card.  Every time you make a purchase with your debit card you earn points that you can then use to "buy" giftcards or even to cash in as money.  For my debit card you have to use the credit option when checking out to earn the points.  I am not sure about others.  Most of your banks offer some type of program like this.  Just make sure it is a DEBIT card NOT a credit card.  You don't want to rack up a lot of debt.

I save my points throughout the year and then a few weeks before the holidays I "cash" them in.  Last year I chose a Bath and Body Works giftcard.  This year I chose a Visa giftcard that I can use anywhere.  In these tough times every little bit of "free" money helps.

This is the first in a series of article I will be writing on frugal holidays.  Check back for more soon!
