The summertime is a great excuse to throw a party. It also makes a great theme for a scrapbook page, so why not do both? Having a crop, a party where people create scrapbook pages, is an enjoyable activity for kids or adults. Whether you’ve got new shots already from this summer, or the ones from last year still hanging out if your camera, grab those pics and get the party started!
For starters, invite 5 to 8 guests, or however many your space can hold. Each will need a chair, table space, and a little elbowroom. Keep in mind, if you are using the kitchen table you will want to allow room somewhere else for the snacks. Choose fun finger foods that guests can grab at their leisure between breaks as the creative juices are flowing. Try to avoid greasy snacks that may cause oily fingers and smudge your pretty pages. Have guests bring 2 to 6 photos from their summer memories, new or old, to use in the crop.
Now just pick your party type.
Crop Kit Party
If you are throwing a crop for children or adults who don’t often crop, you can supply each guest with a kit. You can purchase them at any scrapbook store or you can make your own. To do so, purchase two large paper pads in summer themed colors (one with patterns, the other solids) and a couple packages of glue sticks so that each guest has her own stick. You can throw some embellishments in if you like, or just choose a paper that has neat shapes croppers can cut out. To inspire your guests, create a simple layout using the supplies you are providing. This will give them a guide. They can create it either just as you have or design their own.
Pro Crop Party
If you party with seasoned croppers, you only need to provide plenty of room. Seasoned croppers tend to pack heavily when they bring their own supplies. Create a summer themed challenge for the croppers to complete, such as a layout incorporating the sun, a beach or theme park outing. See who can come up with the hottest summer design in the time allotted. Cast a secret ballot to choose a winner, and give a small scrapbooking supply as a prize.
Whether you are throwing a party for the pros, or a kid’s birthday bash, scrapbooking is a fun way to have a hands-on, summer fun party. Challenge some of your friends to take on a new hobby, or get your expert craft buddies to show off their skills. It’s fun for everyone.
