Summer slump for online wagering

Now that the Belmont Stakes has concluded, online sports wagering will take a back seat for the next couple of months. The Belmont, NBA Finals, and NHL Finals are the last of the major sports betting that will take place until football begins.

March Madness started a run of high profile betting events. The three Triple Crown races, the NCAA Final Four, Wimbledon, and the NBA have carried gamblers through while the NFL was in their off season.

Now, all that is left is baseball. For the average gambler, baseball does not present even the slightest thrill in comparison to the horse, NBA, and NFL. Even hockey has become more of a bettors sport than baseball.

"What we will see now, especially with the World Series of Poker in progress, is that sports bettors will begin saving their gambling money in preparation for the NFL season," said observer Frank Williams, "that means that it will be a dry summer for online sports books."

Poker has actually become one of the most wagered on games in the online industry. For the past several months, online sites have been packed with amateur players trying to win seats into the WSOP.

The Series has begun, the horse races are over, and so too will be the NBA and NHL playoffs. That means it is vacation time for many gamblers, and smaller than usual gambling revenue for online sites.
