
The Boulder County Arts world is exploding with events this weekend. Here are the Saturday Picks for November 7, 2009.
If you are looking for a fun family show, River Story, A Bulgarian Puppet Show will be at the Meadows Branch (4800 Baseline Rd., Boulder, CO) of the Boulder Public Library at 3 pm. This show took the Boulder International Fringe Festival by storm. It is a very touching story.
River Story is a visually stunning puppetry performance for all ages, based on the Bulgarian folk tale Zlatka, The Girl Made Out of Gold. The show features beautiful hand-crafted puppets, masks, shadow theatre, live Bulgarian folk music, singing and folk dancing performed by Margarita Blush, Betsy Tobin, James Hoskins and Lucia Rich.

Also for the family, starting at 11 am at the Boulder Public Library's Canyon Theater , Once Upon A Time - Colorado Symphony Orchestra Family Programs presents The Steadfast Tin Soldier and Mathnotes. This is a double concert feature, a great opportunity to share classical music with your child!
11 am: The Concert Series presents: The Steadfast Tin Soldier
Musicians from the Colorado Symphony present this piece, based on the Hans Christian Anderson story, for percussion, violin, viola, cello and narrator. Specifically for children in grades k-2.
1pm: The Concert Series presents: Mathnotes
Musicans from the Colorado Symphony explore the exciting relationship between mathematics and music. Specifically for children in grades 3-5.

If dancing, specifically ballroom dancing is more your style, check out this event:
The class will explore the roots of Latin Popular dance in Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian movement, including Rumba Cubana. Then we will learn steps for Bachata, Merengue, Salsa from Las Americas, Salsa Casino, Salsa Cubana Suelta. Bolero. Cha-cha-cha, Son Cubano and others. Our focus will be on establishing a relationship between dancer and music. We will also explore how rhythm and dance evolve. The class will follow one of the most important dances rules in Latin cultures- to enjoy ourselves. Taught by Carmen Nelson and Marisa Mellizo. Carmen introduced Latin America popular dance to the Boulder community in 1992. Marisa and Carmen have danced together for many years, their style of teaching is relaxed and warm. This is not a partnering class. Fun is guaranteed.
Or, if theater is what gets you excited, CenterStage Theater Company, is presenting Seussical, the Musical. One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish fun!
CenterStage Theatre Company, a children's theatre company based out of Louisville presents Seussical, the Musical. The performances will take place at the Louisville Middle School auditorium from Thursday, November 5th through Sunday, November 8th. Students in grades 5th through 9th will perform in this fun musical.

For adults that love theater, science fiction, or mind boggling stories, this is a good pick for you! This will be the last chance to see:
The Theater Company of Lafayette (TCL) will present an all new Return to the Twilight Zone, a parody of the classic 1950s television show. With comic stage renditions of three popular episodes, campy take-offs on vintage commercials, and trivia contests, this is the 6th time that TCL has reprised this hugely popular format.
TCL's Artistic Director Madge Montgomery says, "We're especially excited this year, since it's the 50th anniversary of The Twilight Zone's 1959 debut."

A portion of the proceeds of the production will go to the Rod Serling Memorial Foundation, which preserves the legacy of Serling through a variety of projects, including educational scholarships.

CU faculty clarinetist Daniel Silver joins Pro Musica for his interpretation of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. Also on the program are Mozart's Symphony No. 27, Jennifer Higdon's Celebration Fanfare, and Musica Celestis by Aaron Kernis.

Boulder Camerata

The Boulder Camerata, a new ensemble of the Boulder Chorale comprising 80 experienced singers, joins with guest artists Margo Krimmel and Kristi Bartleson, harp, in our debut concert as we explore the sonic landscape of round, rondo, cycle and orb. Featuring works ancient and new by Lauridsen, Górecki, Josquin, Bill Douglas and the premier of "Songs of Childhood" by Sarah Dawson, a new song cycle written for the Boulder Chorale.
