Thursday night at the Electric Factory, Mos Def presents The Ecstatic Tour ft. Mos Def and Talib Kweli with Jay Electronica, Medina Green and Black Landlord. Mos Def has had a successful career both as a hip-hop artist and as an actor who has appeared in several films. His latest album, The Ecstatic, was released in June and features a collaboration with tour mate Talib Kweli. The two also worked together back in 1998 when they formed the duo Black Star. Since then Kweli has had his own successful solo career, and his most recent album, Eardrum, was released in 2007.
Ingrid Michaelson at TLA, Thursday 9/17 at 9pm, $20/$23 day-of
Indie/pop singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson will play at TLA on Thursday night with Greg Holden and Johnny Marnell. Michaelson had a huge hit with her song "The Way I Am" from 2007's Girls and Boys, and her new album Everybody, released August 25, immediately went to number one on the iTunes charts.
Dead Meadow at Johnny Brenda's, Thursday 9/17 at 9pm, $10
Thursday night at Johnny Brenda's LA psych-rock trio Dead Meadow will play along with Brother JT and Robes. Dead Meadow's latest album Old Growth was released in 2008 and they are currently working an a feature length film and soundtrack called Three Kings, using footage from their live show mixed with artistically shot footage featuring the band in dreamlike scenarios.
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead at First Unitarian Church, Thursday 9/17 at 8pm, $12
Playing at First Unitarian Church on Thursday night is indie/art-rock band ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead with Secret Machines and The G. Trail of Dead has gained a large following over the years thanks to albums like 2002's Source Tags & Codes, which was rated a 10 out of 10 by Pitchfork. Their latest album, The Century of Self, was released in February 2009.
Himalaya at Kung Fu Necktie, Thursday 9/17 at 8pm
Also on Thursday night, psychedelic rock band Himalaya will play a free show at Kung Fu Necktie along with Sunshine Recorder. The members of Brooklyn-based Himalaya originate from Philly and describe their music as a blend of The Verve, Spacemen 3, The Jesus & Mary Chain and early Pink Floyd. They released their self-titled debut album in February this year.
Rusted Root at TLA*, Friday 9/18 at 8:30pm, $25/$28.50 day-of
On Friday night bluegrass/jam band Rusted Root will play at TLA along with The Kin. Rusted Root released the album Stereo Rodeo in May 2009, their first studio album since 2002. Opening for Rusted Root is The Kin, an indie rock duo consisting of two brothers from Australia. The Kin's first album, Rise and Fall, was recorded on a farm in Bucks County PA, and its anticipated follow-up THE UPside, is scheduled for release on September 22.

Dave Matthews Band at Susquehanna Bank Center, Saturday 9/19 and Sunday 9/20 at 7pm
Dave Matthews Band will play two shows this weekend at Susquehanna Bank Center with opening act Robert Randolph & The Family Band. Dave Matthews Band has been touring in support of their latest album Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King, released this past June. The tour included headlining spots at festivals such as Outside Lands, 10,000 Lakes Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the upcoming Austin City Limits. Opening act Robert Randolph & The Family Band, who just played a free show at the Camden Backyard BBQ on September 6, are a funk/soul/jam band led by Robert Randolph on pedal steel guitar. They first gained attention with the 2003 album Unclassified, and its follow-up, 2006's Colorblind, featured guest appearances from Dave Matthews and Eric Clapton. Saturday's show is sold out but tickets are still available for Sunday.
Moby at TLA, Sunday 9/20 at 8pm, $30/$35 day-of
Playing on Sunday night at TLA is electronic/ambient artist Moby with Kelli Scarr. Moby has been one of the most successful musicians in his genre over the past decade. His breakthrough album was 1999's Play, from which every song went on to appear in commercials, TV shows and movies. Moby released his 9th studio album, Wait for Me, on June 30 2009.
The Cave Singers at Johnny Brenda's, Sunday 9/20 at 9pm, $10/$12
Seattle band The Cave Singers will play at Johnny Brenda's on Sunday night along with Lightning Dust and local band Hunter Gatherer. The Cave Singers make folk rock music reminiscent of the 60's and their latest album, Welcome Joy, was released in August. Lightning Dust is an experimental/folk rock band consisting of members Amber Webber and Joshua Wells, who are also part of the group Black Mountain.
Sufjan Stevens at Johnny Brenda's, Monday 9/21 and Tuesday 9/2/2 at 9pm, SOLD OUT
Sufjan Stevens will play two sold out shows at Johnny Brenda's on Monday and Tuesday nights with opening act Cryptacize. Indie/folk singer-songwriter Stevens is best known for his 2005 album Illinois, which is part of his "Fifty States Project" in which he plans to record an album about each state in the US. The only other album completed as part of this project so far was for his home state Michigan, released in 2003. In October he will release Run Rabbit Run, which takes his 2001 album Enjoy Your Rabbit and rearranges the songs for a string quartet.
