If you’re interested in becoming an online tutor, there are several legitimate companies which regularly hire educated individuals. Each company has its own requirements and benefits which you must take into account. Following is a list of the most well-known and respected of the online tutoring companies.
· Tutor.com – According to the website, Tutor.com is “is constantly on the lookout for professional tutors who can work well with students online.” They have even been featured in Working Mother Magazine as one of the Top 25 Best Small Companies for Women in 2007. To become certified, you must have a degree or be currently enrolled in college in the United States or Canada. You must also pass a test in your area of expertise and submit writing samples according to the site’s guidelines. The entire certification process can take up to three weeks.
· Brainfuse.com – BrainFuse is an online tutoring company which prides itself on its highly educated and qualified tutors. According to the website, all tutors undergo a rigorous selection and training process. You must email your resume to be considered for a position as an online tutor. · MyTutor24.com – The website states, “At MyTutor24, we are always looking for talented tutors to support students in Grades K-12. You can work from the convenience of your home and part time as well!” Minimum qualifications include an undergrad degree in desired subject area, 2 years teaching or tutoring experience, familiarity with computers, and state/national teaching certification.
· Aim4A.com – According to the website, “Aim-for-A Tutoring is looking for part-time and full-time tutors to provide online tutoring services to students worldwide. If you have a mastery of ANY subject, we would like to hear from you!” Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in the desired subject area, teaching experience, and strong communication skills. You’ll be required to submit your resume along with an explanation of why you’d like to pursue online tutoring.
· Smarthinking.com – This Company is “hiring motivated individuals to serve as part-time tutors. The major responsibility is tutoring students of varying abilities and ages.” Prior to hiring, prospective tutors must successfully complete E-structor® Certification -- an online, discipline specific (paid) training program which is approximately 15 hours in length.
