'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change'
There are a limited number of opportunities to still see I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change at the Tipping Point Theatre in Northville (just this weekend and next), and if you can make it you will not be disappointed. The theater is great; there’s not a bad seat in the place. My only (minor) complaint is that it did get a little warm by the second act. But you’re so close to the actors you feel like you’re friends with them by the time you leave. The set is simple but very creative. It’s colorful but not overdone and the set floor has secret areas with flip-up tops for wardrobe and props that remind me of those stow & go compartments in a high-end minivan. The cast is very talented; in fact, they were so adept at switching from character to character that you’d forget who they were playing just 30 seconds before.  I also loved how they put the show’s lone musician in a DJ-like booth above the set yet still managed to incorporate him into the action. Though I thought the best indicator of the show's success was the usher who was sitting right next to my friend and laughed hysterically through a show he must have seen 10 times already.

The new theater, open since May 2007, came to fruition through the drive and vision of Christina Johnson (former actress and acting teacher) and Chuck Gaidica (yes, THAT Chuck Gaidica from WDIV!). The space is not too big and not too small, has easy access from I-275, and is conveniently located close to downtown Northville. The prices are reasonable and the talent is first-rate. What more could you ask? And if attending a show gives you the acting bug…they now offer a variety of classes for all ages.

The rest of the 2008-2009 season includes The Dinner PartyRabbit Hole and The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged).
