Remember the days when Friday morning at the office meant doughnuts? Well no
w, except for the occasional Krispy Kreme event, bagels are the staple food used in the ritual greeting of the beginning of the weekend.
What's the big deal? A bagel is good, healthy bread, right? An essential building block of your daily diet. Not so different from the bread you'd pile your tuna salad on come lunchtime. Yet that bagel, and it's not-so-innocent companion, cream cheese, can make a serious dent in your calorie counts for the day.
That bagel with cream cheese has a surprising 436 calories, according to Calorie Count! That's a hefty load, and to put it into perspective, you'd need to run about four and a third miles to burn it off. Sobering, isn't it?
