What a great time for a snowstorm. On Saturday afternoon when you don’t have to commute to work on Sunday. Can you feel the excitement? The anticipation?
The northern suburbs are supposed to get the brunt of snow. Lucky you if you live there because you have wealth of XC ski trails from which to choose.
Robert Ney Regional Park in Maple Lake has 3.5 miles of classic groomed trails that wind through marshes and forest canopy. Lake Maria State Park in Monticello has 14 miles of classic trails and two miles of skate ski trails through rolling hills, woods, lakes, and ponds. If you get an early start tomorrow, head up to Banning State Park and ski the beautiful classic trails along the Kettle River.
For all other metro-area trails, click here. There’s two alternative options for tomorrow if skiing has no appeal:
Sadly, I'm feeling extra blue this weekend and will opt for the alternative options. Go ahead and roll your eyes. I won't be offended. It's just that...that...I'm still ski sick for the slopes and trails of Colorado. You peeps who have skied the steeps and deeps out west know what I'm talking about.
If you don't, allow me to explain. It's hard to get motivated to ski at Afton or Welch when the image of mountains, in excess of 11,000 feet, are still fresh in your memory and haunting your dreams.
Waaaahhhh!!!
