Although the name Emily has reigned supreme for many years, the newest top babies names have edged Emily over and taken her place. Today, parents are going for different, but still familiar baby names. The top girls name, according to the Social Security Administration, the top girl baby name is now Emma and the top boy baby name is Jacob.

The name Jacob is no surprise. This is the tenth year that name has landed the number one spot among popular baby names for boys. Other top 10 baby names include:

NEWEST TOP BABIES NAMES FOR THIS YEAR

  1. Michael
  2. Ethan
  3. Joshua
  4. Daniel
  5. Isabella
  6. Emily
  7. Madison

As you think of a name for your precious little bundle of joy, you may want to choose a baby name that is unique and not in the top 10, or you may want to go with the flow and stick with Emma or Michael.
