How big is it? A whooping 34,500 square feet! Galeries Lafayette, the famous domed grand magasin on Boulevard Haussman, has just inaugurated its new shoe department. According to Galeries Lafayette, it's the world's largest. Opened since July, shoppers can consider buying 150 brands of shoes, 75 of which are exclusive to the department store, for a total of 12,000 pairs. The showroom itself isn't shabby either. Accessed via a gold and white Patrick Jouin-designed staircase, it displays shoes as works of art in a sleek, lounge-like setting. Wide aisles, wengé wood, white varnished furniture, and chocolate brown leather sofas invite lingering. Galeries Lafayette will sell sandals and boots year-round in sizes ranging from 3 to 12 (in American sizes), plus half sizes in between. The gallery of shoes also offers a variety of services from an artisan cobbler to a foot salon specializing in pedicures, as well as a foot care center offering everything you need to take care of your shoes and feet: special brushes, shoe creams in all colors, foot-care lotions and more. The shoe prices range from 99 Euros to 1,300 Euros making the prices for those of us using the dollar start at $145 up to $1,890. GALERIES LAFAYETTE 40 bd Haussmann, Paris (9th)
