As the summer winds down, there are over 3500 Texas middle and high school students choosing to spend a portion of their summer with TexPREP, the Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program. TexPREP is a four-year commitment with students earning high school credit upon completion. The focus of the program is the math behind the science and technologies utilized in the engineering profession. The program, hosted by various colleges, includes class time, lab activities, and in some cases, field trips. In the Dallas area, the following colleges are participating:
Year 1: El Centro College, Cedar Valley College, Eastfield College, Mountain View College and Richland College, all from the Dallas County Community College District.
Year 2: University of North Texas - Dallas, University of Texas - Dallas, Mountain View College, and Southern Methodist University.
Year 3: Southern Methodist University Students entering the program must be high achievers in school and maintain that achievement throughout the program in order to receive high school elective credit upon completion.
