The weeks leading up to Halloween left us with more options of things to do than I could even pretend to cover - heck, more than examiner.com could get in. The weekends following, however, were pretty bland.
This weekend is huge, though, and I'm back to being upset that there will be several things I'll have to miss.
Friday:
Grand Re-Opening - After a much-needed renovation, the National American History Museum of the Smithsonian is re-opening. Ribbon cutting is at 8:30 am, and the Grand Re-opening festival is at 10 am, Friday through Sunday, and stays open until 7 pm Friday night. There are new exhibits and tons of events. Because who doesn't love a little American History?
Louis CK - 8:00 at the Werner Theater learn more here.
The French Kicks - 9pm at Black Cat (1811 14th St. NW in DC). These guys were one of my favorites back in the garage rock revival, and even as they become increasingly electronic, their layered melodies and great lyrics keep their music honest.
American Psycho - Part of E Street Cinema's Midnight Madness, it plays at midnight both Friday and Saturday at E Street Landmark cinemas (Metro Center), at 11th and E in NW. And this one is the perfect late-night movie, complete with chainsaws, hatchets, diatribes on Whitney Houston and Huey Lewis and the news of questionable accuracy, Wall Street, and a deep questioning about what it means to be alive.
Saturday:
Slick Rick - DAR Constitution Hall, 7:30 pm. English export and early hip-hop storyteller, Slick Rick will give you a whole new - that is, old school - taste of hip-hop.
Localpalooza - Jaxx nightclub, 7:15 pm. Head to Virginia and support the local bands. Because national bands have to come from somewhere.
See Above - American Psycho and The American History Museum are still going on on Saturday!
