Gluten-free lipstick? It almost sounds like a joke. Until you realize that the average woman ingests over four pounds of lipstick in her lifetime.
Now granted, the gluten found in lipstick does not go through your pores and into your gut. But, you have to assume that at some point you actually do ingest the product since it is on your lips. If you are like me, my lipstick wears off during the course of the day and it is not from me wiping my mouth. So I suppose, I probably lick some of it off and am therefore technically eating the lipstick.
If you examine the ingredients in your lipstick you will notice that many, including some Estee Lauder products, contain barley. There are mainstream cosmetic manufacturers that carry gluen-free lipstick, including Lancome. There are also specialty cosmetic companies that produce entire gluten-free make-up lines. Afterglow Cosmetics has very nice products and they are gluten-free.
Just one more little thing to consider on a gluten-free diet.
