The month of October is the time of multiple holidays, including Halloween, Columbus Day and, perhaps most importantly, Oktoberfest. This month long celebration of Germany's proud beer craftsmanship has been a tradition in its mother country since 1810, but hasn't crept stateside until recent decades. Los Angeles has a number of venues that are hosting special events in honor of this beer-soaked autumn festival.

Alpine Village in Torrance- This restaurant is hosting their own biergarten every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday now through October 25th. It is the self proclaimed largest and longest running Oktoberfest in southern California.

Oktoberfest at LA Market- Oct. 10th- 1-6 pm. General admission is priced at $15, but you can purchase all inclusive or VIP level tickets for a much steeper cost. In addition to a standard beer garden, there are contests, polka bands, dancers, and puzzlingly enough, a performance by Cirque du Soleil.

Oktoberfest in Montrose, CA- Oct. 3rd from 12pm-11pm, featuring contests, games, ride, and best of all, free admission!

Old World in Huntington Beach- Running now through November 1st, there’s free admission on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with a $15 dollar fee on Saturday and $5 entry price on Sunday. Though it’s a ways away, there's a wide selection of German beer available at a full bar.

Oktoberfest at Big Bear Lake- Every weekend through Halloween, you can join in on the excitement for $12 on Saturdays and $6 on Sundays. This festival boasts the nation's only beer stein carrying contest, where aspiring beer wenches must travel with armfuls of full mugs while spilling as little as possible.

Or course, if your schedule is a bit tight to make one of these celebrations, you can always pay a visit to Red Lion Tavern, where it’s Oktoberfest all year round.

Prosit!
