People describe Kate Gosselin a lot of ways -- controlling, anal, organized, money grubbing, nagging, self-centered, etc. However, based on the last show, Kate Gosselin seems determined to cast herself in a different light. But will people buy it? Will Jon and Kate fans truly feel sorry for her? Is that the angle which will drive ratings or will she be more focused on her recorded legacy?
On the infamous Jon and Kate divorce announcement show, Jon Gosselin spoke in very uncertain, yet grandiose terms about his uncommitted future, suggesting that someone might even offer him a job. Who knows, right?
The problem with making your entire living off of exposing your inner most secrets to the world and letting camera men poop where you eat (although actually I'm not sure she would let them use her bathroom) is that the Gosselins have no other skills to fall back on. Kate Gosselin was a nurse but has long since left that working woman's life behind.
"The show must go on," Kate has said repeatedly. The future of Jon and Kate Plus 8 will squarely rest on Kate's ability to elicit viewer emotions which may suggest that her time on hiatus may be best served going to acting classes after such confessions to People magazine this week. Kate has been giving interviews confessing her disgust of Jon and spending the last few months wondering why they were together. She tells People that she wouldn't be with him today had she just met him. How does a woman who makes these kinds of statements of self interest garner sympathy? I guess we'll have to watch the show to find out.
If the show does fail, I see a few other reality shows in their near future -- "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here" or "Surreal Life" or how about "The Bachelorette"? The possibilities are endless!
