Put this one in the "What Took Them So Long?" file -- TLC has filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against their reality TV star Jon Gosselin.
TLC is saying that by Jon being paid to go on Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, this violated the exclusivity clause he agreed to when signing on for Jon and Kate Plus 8. TLC also claims that Jon's appearance on Larry King Live without their permission also violated his contract.
Jon Gosselin has previously said that when TLC decided to remove Jon from the show and rename it Kate Plus 8, that move made his contract with them null and void.
Of course Jon didn't make any friends over at TLC when he shut down production of Jon and Kate Plus 8 a few weeks ago by refusing to allow the network to film his children any longer. TLC immediately fired back, calling Jon "erratic" and "self-destructive."
A TLC representative said yesterday that Kate Plus 8 was not canceled and that they were adamant about moving forward with the show, so the lawsuit seems like a strong arm tactic to get Jon to cooperate and let show production resume.
And with Jon's legal bills growing and his bank account shrinking, it just might work.
