While some experts predict that education will be pushed down on his list of priorities, others speculate at who President Elect Barack Obama will choose for the new Secretary of Education.
Still, most parents and average citizens are talking about which school Michelle and Barack Obama should select for their daughters, Malia and Natasha (Sasha).
It's no secret that the new First Lady recently toured private schools in the DC area, and there's little doubt that the Obamas would not enroll the girls in a private school since they are currently students at the University of Chicago Lab School.
Three schools have been named as the top choices among those familiar with the options available: Sidwell Friends School, Georgetown Day School and the Maret School. Each of these schools are members of the National Association of Independent Schools which means that they all offer high quality education, small teacher-to-student ratios and progressive and diverse philosophies. No matter which of these schools is chosen, the First Daughters will be very well educated and provided with the same, if not more, opportunities as their parents were.
Selecting the best school for a child is not an easy decision for parents and is often a stressful and emotional process. I applaud the Obamas for taking their time and visiting the schools before announcing their decision.
For most of us, applications and waiting lists are often the determining factors of whether our children will be accepted into a private school. I have reason to believe that the chosen school will make an exception for Sasha and Malia, and would be honored to have the First Family join their community.
