My recent article about the lunar orbiter certainly stirred up a lot of fuss! I want to acknowledge that I brought on a lot of that confrontation myself. The tone of the article was unusually strident for me. I'm generally a fairly mild-mannered and agreeable person, and for some reason I came out very strongly. It's a great example of what happens when Pluto conjuncts your natal Mars, and I'll talk about that in another article. So I want to apologize for creating the energy of antagonism which I then drew back in (in spades). I would like to establish a different tone for the dialogue that we have created here.
I saw an old movie a few days ago called "Holy Smoke". In one of the climactic scenes, the female lead had been berating and taunting the male lead. He wrote letters in reverse across her forehead and led her to a mirror. She saw "BE KIND". I take that as a message to all of us -- be kind.
Imagine that you are trying to communicate about your most treasured theory, the work to which you have devoted your life. It is a work that many don't understand, and it's hard to communicate the ideas precisely because of that. Feel how much energy it takes to search for exactly the right word to convey the concept. Now imagine that you are doing that while there is a crowd throwing stones at you. How does that feel? Are you able to convey your precious ideas? Perhaps you can feel the difficulty in that.
I welcome all your comments, whether you agree with me or not, and I ask that your comments be kind. Comments that are not kind, or say nothing more than "You are a moron" will be deleted. The intellect works best when married with the heart.
I thank you for the many comments you have left. It's good to hear where you are so I can answer your reactions directly. Many of the points that you brought up are quite valid, and I learned some interesting information from you. I will endeavor to answer as many comments as I can, so stick around!
Many people took the time to research my background. There is more to my history than you can find on the web. I worked for five years as a computer programmer in the late 70's and early 80's -- the days of mainframes. I did statistical programming for social research organizations. I also used to play chess, and I would think five moves ahead. I have a strong intellect, which I used in both of these activities. I respect the power of the intellect. It has produced many wonderful innovations, and our lives would not be the same without so much contributions from so many brains.
In my own life's journey, I became aware of the limitations of the intellect. You've heard the phrase, "Put on your thinking cap." There are times when thinking is actually a cap, or a limitation, to what you might discover when you go beyond thinking. Anytime we have a thought about how something is, then we have stopped perceiving it freshly.
My theories and ideas about how the universe works don't come from the intellect. You may have figured that one out already! I am not a scientist. I don't necessarily speak that language. I welcome the scientists who read this to correct me if I speak incorrectly, and I invite you to share your wisdom. Perhaps you know of science that supports the theories that I have intuitively developed. Wouldn't that be great if it comes from both sides?
