The British newspaper The Independent reported a new scientific research that calls into question the ethics of Jewish and Muslim animal slaughter laws. In their grand tradition of bowing down to the religious, Britain granted an exception to the 1995 regulations on animal slaughter to the Muslims and Jews of the United Kingdom. While slaughterhouses are required to stun the animals before slaying them, the exempt can cut the animal’s throat while fully conscious.
Animal rights activists are calling upon religious slaughterhouses to comply with 1995 regulations. It is doubtful that the aforementioned groups will respond as it would possibly go against their ancient animal sacrifice halal and kosher rituals. Outcries of persecution will surely be heard if the U.K. tried to enact universally applicable laws. This brings back memories of the Swedish attempt to ensure male circumcisions are carried out by licensed physicians. Muslims rallied against this most unbearable attack on their so-called religious traditions, and Jews played their infamous anti-Semitism card, comparing Sweden’s mild and unsatisfactory revision to the policies of Nazi Germany.
