Following the trend of companies vying for your spit, Inherent Health offers a DNA test designed to help you lose weight. Based on your genetic profile, the report is supposed to help you eat and exercise more effectively to lose weight.

The test checks five variations in four genes to tell you how much fat you absorb from your food, how you metabolize carbs, and how you respond to exercise. Most reports say that the recommendations in the DNA weight management profile are similar to the government's dietary standards.

Amy Katsis struggled to lose weight and keep it off for years until she got her DNA weight loss test. Her report suggested she would benefit from a reduced carbohydrate diet and more exercise. She lost 30 pounds and has kept it off for a year.

Amy's story is a familiar one and the recommendations she got from her DNA profile aren't that different from recommendations she might have gotten from any fitness consultant regarding losing weight.

DNA testing for weight loss is on the rise, but some professionals question the value of it in its current state. If you're interested in having it done it costs $149, involves a simple cheek swab, and takes 7-10 days for results.
