Five years ago, filmmaker and yoga practitioner Kate Churchill decided to make a film about yoga, digging deeper into the ancient practice and exploring its potential to dramatically change someone's life. Nick Rosen, a 29-year-old journalist from New York, agreed to be Churchill's subject in what she describes as her attempt to "cut through the commercialism of the yoga industry." For six months, Nick found himself immersed into the world of yoga, attending classes, meeting celebrity instructors, and traveling the world as both he and Kate encounter contradictions, kooks, true believers, and more questions than answers. The result is Enlighten Up!, a "simultaneously tongue-in-cheek and reverential [documentary that] will entertain the unenlightened without alienating the faithful." (Ronnie Schieb, Variety).
The film makes it Kansas City debut this Friday, June 12, 7:15 at the Tivoli Cinema in Westport. Come for the pre-screening gathering to meet area yoga enthusiasts and pick-up a copy of Evolving, Kansas City's guide to conscious living.
