Included in the K street trifecta of relatively new clubs/lounges is that of Lotus Lounge. Situated at 1420 K Street, directly across from Lima, and a mere stone’s throw from Josephine’s, Lotus offers the same sort of European vibe that appears to be enveloping much of downtown D.C’s nightlife.

At first glance the club/lounge doesn’t appear to be anything special, a fairly modest entrance guarded by some surprisingly friendly bouncers. However, upon descending the stairs to enter the club one’s opinion changes quickly. I was pleasantly surprised. To begin with, the club’s décor is fantastic:  an ultra-modern sleek design throughout the club is eye pleasing to say the least. Brightly colored neon lighted walls, giant lotus shaped lights hanging from above make it clear that the club’s theme extends far beyond its name. However, the appeal of the club isn't simply in it's decor.

The music itself was good, at times, but tastes vary from person to person. There seemed to have been a slightly inconsistent blend of house followed by hip-hop and then a return to house. Aside from this slight hiccup, which once again is strictly my opinion, my group and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Financially speaking Lotus can be a bit steep at times, with a $20 cover charge for guys it’s advised that you have relatively deep wallets if the plan is to spend the whole night there. Women I believe have free entrance all night, but it would be wise to consult their website for specifics.
