If your kids are into the Jonas Brothers, a boy band who gained their popularity on the Disney Channel, your young ones are in good hands. The Jonas siblings, known for their wholesome, family-friendly image, not only produce great music, but they are great role models who are up for several Teen Choice Awards this year. Although they are not billed as gospel music artists, the Jonas Brothers are the Evangelical sons of an Assemblies of God pastor who managed Christian music groups (and now manages his sons). Home schooled by their mother, Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas are unapologetic about their Christian faith. In 2006, the Jonas Brothers' came to Gospel Music Week in Nashville where they first came to my attention.
Having heard various critics voice their opinions on the JoBros' latest offering, Lines, Vines and Trying Times, which released on June 16, 2009, it is amusing to note half are calling it overly sweet, while the other half are reading naughty meanings into some of the songs and criticizing the Jonas Brothers for not living up to their virtuous reputation. The critics don't seem to be slowing the Jonas Brothers down or dampening the enthusiasm of their fans. Tuesday night, following the release of Lines, Vines and Trying Times, the three brothers were performing "Paranoid" and "World War III" to a packed arena at Wembly Arena, London and simulcasting their performance to en equally enthusiastic crowd on the "Jimmy Kimmel Show."
The Jonas brothers have never been marketed as a "gospel group," and Lines, Vines and Trying Times is not a gospel album. However, as long as the JoBros continue to produce wholesome music, perform at family-friendly concerts, and remain outspoken about their faith, we will happily claim them.
