
Jennifer Hudson hits a high note with "Will You Be There"
As reported in Jennifer Hudson to perform at Michael Jackson's memorial service July 7, gospel and pop recording artist Jennifer Hudson performed at the Michael Jackson Memorial Service today at the at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Wearing a pure white dress, the 8-month-pregnant Jennifer Hudson performed a soulful, moving rendition of Michael Jackson's song "Will You Be There?" at the special request of the Jackson Family. Her powerful vocals blended elements of her gospel music roots with a classical soul-anthem sound as evident in the video below.
In Michael Jackson's gospel music ties, it was noted that the song "Will You Be There?" is considered by many to be a Michael Jackson gospel song, and Hudson certainly turned it into a gospel anthem. "Will You Be There" was originally released in the 1991 album Dangerous and was later released as a single in 1993. The song also appeared on the soundtrack of the 1993 whale movie, "Free Willy."
Michael Jackson's Memorial Service was organized by Michael Jackson's concert promoter, AEG Live, on behalf of the Jackson family. It was viewed around the world - part memorial service and part gospel service.
