After heavy promotion via press releases, Facebook and Twitter, the excitement had built about the opportunity to see the Concert of the Decade online, and viewers flocked to the Concert of the Decade website at 7:30 to watch the concert to save the Gospel Music Association only to find the connection was unavailable for the first hour.

Stellar Gospel Lineup Draws Online Viewers

The benefit event featured some of gospel music's most popular artists including Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Natalie Grant, Kirk Franklin, Point of Grace, Fisk Jubilee Singers and The Booth Brothers. (See Concert of the Decade to be broadcast worldwide Oct. 12.) However, while some people were soon Tweeting that they were watching the concert, others were Twittering that the online version of Concert of the Decade was a bust:

Twitterers Tweet About Concert of the Decade
"any 1 else having trouble getting to the login page for the "concert of the decade"?"
"Concert of the Decade website either massively overloaded or not working properly. :( 9 minutes later still trying to get logged on."
"Concert of the Decade website http://concertofthedecade.com seems to be a complete fail. Bummer ya'll!!"
"Concert of the Decade is not happening....frozen - and according to their own troubleshoot I should be getting high speed...."
"Concert of the Decade has proven to be disappointing since I can't view it for more than a few minutes before it times out"

HearItFirst eventually posted, "we've been having some technical difficulties with the concert of the decade webcast... stay tuned :)"  About an hour after the concert was supposed to start,
jasonwhitehorn posted, "Stream is back up. it is online now. We finally got it running!"

Concert of the Decade Times Out
I tried to log in at various times between 7:30 and 8:30, first experiencing problems with the login page not loading, and then getting the repeated error message, "Timed out while connecting to the stream." At 8:30 I decided I had spent enough time trying to get in.

Concert of the Decade Disappoints Many Gospel Music Fans
It was disappointing to many fans of gospel music who were unable to pay $1,000 for a ticket to discover they were also unable to get in to view the concert online. I hope the concert to save the GMA was a huge success as the Gospel Music Association provides a good service to the gospel music community and fans, but the failure of the Concert of the Decade online stream was a letdown to those fans who could not get connected and stay connected to the Concert of the Decade site.
