If only I could eat a baker's dozen...

The Williamsburg/Greenpoint area is home to a wide variety of restaurants sure to fulfill any craving you’re having, but some places stand out more than others. One of my favorite restaurants here is actually a place I discovered in Manhattan first. Caracas Arepas Bar in the East Village was a city favorite of mine and of many other people as well. If you weren’t there by 6pm there was a huge wait ahead and you ended up staring though the window, hating everyone inside. Thankfully they realized that people across the bridge were just as hungry, so a new location opened in Williamsburg a few months ago.

I’m sure you’ve already forgotten it from 6th grade, but Caracas is the capital city of Venezuela. And I’m guessing that it translates in English to mean tasty, delicious treat because that is exactly what you’ll find at Caracas Arepas Bar on Grand Street. This place is worth skipping meals just to make sure you’re showing up with a belly ready to fill up with deliciousness.

What are these arepas, you ask? Think of them as a hybrid of a sandwich, a burrito, and a muffin. They come stuffed with chicken, beef, chorizo, or tofu and lots of cheesy goodness. There is a secret sauce kept on the table that is so wonderful and spicy that you might be tempted to sneak it out in your tote bag. One bite and you’ll be hooked.

They also have fantastic sides to nibble on while you wait for your arepa and a scrumptious brunch menu. There is no alcohol served at this location, but they have fruity milkshakes and mind-blowing coffee that will make you glad you didn’t settle for a beer. Make sure you try La Pelua and get a basket of guasacaca and chips for the table … you’ll thank me later.

So unless you’ve lost your taste buds in a tragic accident there is no way you won’t fall in love with Caracas. Not only is the food fantastic, but your wallet will leave just as full as your belly is.

Here’s how to get there:
